Reporting to the VP Finance Manager this position will be responsible for financial reporting and analysis which will aid in assessing and improving profitability across the bank.
Position emphasis will be on the profitability of the bank’s business units, products and customers. The analyst will support and maintain systems and provide reporting and analysis to drive improved profitability.
Budget: Responsible for production of monthly Responsibility Center reports which provide variances to budget and provide timely feedback to management regarding each area’s operational results. Assisting in the development of the annual budget, working closely with Bank management, providing support, guidance and review during the process. Provide additional business unit reporting as required by the business units.
Product/Customer Profitability: Update and maintain the product/customer profitability system. Reconcile monthly data uploads, adjust for new product types, evaluate impact of changes in bank structure and recommend and implement fixes. Understand system outputs and work with the business lines to explain results and assist in analytics which will result in greater product and customer profitability.
Business Unit Profitability: Participate in building out a full business unit profitability reporting system that will show each business unit’s balance sheet, and income statement results and metrics, incorporating funds transfer pricing and provisions.
Other Position Requirements:
Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis for management related to financial performance, with the ability to identify and communicate solutions to potentially complex, time-critical business issues. Gain familiarity with peer group reporting data including SNL.
Maintain an excellent knowledge of related state and federal banking regulations particularly as they relate to the finance area, as well as other bank operational policies.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university. At least one year recent related experience in a financial institution preferrably in a Financial Analyst role.
Ability to interact with all levels of the institution. Ability to work with the senior business management and staff to share information necessary to complete financial forecasts and budgets, and understand financial results. The ability to work with accounting, finance and all support groups of the bank as necessary to complete objectives. The ability to effectively work with vendors with ongoing maintenance and compliance issues and with system implementations.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write routine reports, correspondence and procedures.
REASONING ABILITY AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
The candidate should have strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and software as required. As a base the applicant should have a solid background in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Power-Point and Word. Access a plus. Knowledge and experience using banking budgeting, planning and reporting software also a plus.
