  • Overview

    Collects funds due to HarborOne Bank in an efficient and professional manner. Abiding by all collection laws and regulations and following the policies and procedures of HarborOne Bank.Responsibilities include the collection, management and resolution of past due accounts.  Initiates and monitors specific collection activity on assigned accounts.  Negotiates with past due customers on repayment terms within bank guidelines.

     

    Ideal candidates can work a flexible schedule which includes Evenings and some Saturdays.

    Responsibilities

    Collect on all loans past due between 30 - 59 days.  Collection efforts are made on all types of loans the bank offers, such as: mortgage, personal, small business and commercial loans.

    Make contact with all customers in daily assignment through utilizing the IBS collections software.  Maintain thorough documentation on conversations, payment promises and actions taken.

    Negotiate payment plans with delinquent customers; recommend loan rewrites; mortgage payment assistance to assistant collections manager or VP Collections Officer, or senior collector in their absence.

    Maintain documentation of all contacts, and attempted contacts, made to the customer.  Prepare and send appropriate correspondence to customer regarding their delinquency.  Retrieve customer's account information, verify any new payments and/or any deposit accounts which could be accessed for payment.

    Bring delinquent accounts to resolution while providing excellent customer service and maintaining customer confidentiality and assuring compliance with all collection laws and regulations.

    Input information into system, send letters and make quality collection calls in a timely manner.

    Determine and document type of action and notification that will take place.  This could include collection agencies, attorneys, or pursuing payment through small claims court.

    Retrieve loan note, check for cosigners, and set up new cards for loans in legal, repossession or foreclosure status.

    Solve problems by suggesting solutions to customers and/or direct them to a credit counseling agency that could assist them.

    Assist internal customers by offering information and answering questions regarding customers who are in the branches.

    Make arrangements for payments that comply with bank policy and equitable for customer.

    Maintain a very good understanding of Federal and State regulations as they pertain to the collection of past due payments, including laws pertaining to bankruptcy.

    Maintain a good understanding of COCC system and the ability to read screens to determine any potential posting errors.

    Represent the bank in small claims court, when necessary.

     

    COMPLIANCE: Maintain an excellent understanding of applicable regulations and laws including but not limited to; Bank Secrecy Act; Privacy; and Fair Lending.

    Maintain an up to date understanding of bank policies and procedures as they relate to compliance.

    Complete appropriate compliance training.

    Consistently meet monthly performance goals. Work overtime as needed.

    Secondary Duties:

    Assist other collectors and perform clerical duties as needed. 

    Other Skills:

    Maintain a good understanding of word-processing and spreadsheet programs such as MS Word and MS Excel.  Maintain an excellent understanding of Insight, IBS (collections software).  Maintain an excellent understanding of collection and bankruptcy regulations and their application to this position.  Maintain full understanding of resolution options to minimize and/or reduce losses to the bank.

    Education and/or Experience

    One year certificate from college or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Language Skills 

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
